Bonnie Turner was looking for a place to study the word when she found the CHAKAM School of the Bible online.

The Alberta woman has never regretted it.

“I wanted to study the word and I knew that other schools would be out of my reach financially,” she said, noting CHAKAM was half the price of many schools.

But there was another thing that set it apart.

“The difference was that it was led by the spirit, a lot of spirit influence, not just academic, so that was the difference and that’s what I was looking for.”

CHAKAM operated in Prince Albert for 12 years before the transition to the Canadian Revival Preparatory School in early 2013 after CHAKAM founder John Fryters passed the torch to Rev. Kevin Tabuchi and his wife Pastor Teresa Tabuchi.

“Pastor Teresa made it a very smooth transition,” Turner says. “She included Dr. Fryters in with my last course, which was my final course. It wasn’t like I just left his tutelage to be under her’s. She’s a very warm person.”

Turner will continue with her studies with the hope of getting a bachelor of theology.

Fryters says Turner, a resident of Castor, Alta., worked hard to achieve marks in the mid-90s under tough circumstances.

“It’s very difficult to do post-secondary distance (learning),” he said. “It’s not easy.”

The school offers post-secondary certificate and diploma programs in biblical studies. They also have an academic link with a seminary in the U.S. called the Biblical Life College and Seminary that trains people to become ministers through distance learning.

The degrees are conferred in the U.S.

Teresa Tabuchi is the principal of the Canadian Revival Preparatory School and dean of the Canadian Revival Training Centre.

The private school, which receives no government funding, is hoping to grow. It currently has a couple dozen students ranging from kindergarten to Grade 12, Tabuchi said.

“We’re looking to expand over the next couple of years.”

On Thursday she was also the proud mom of one of the three high school graduates as her daughter Natasha Tabuchi, along with Zachariah Hayes and Miranda Waboose, received their diplomas in the school’s sixth annual graduation ceremony.

“It’s a great night.”
