Melville/Ituna RCMP

On April 26, 2014, at approximately 6:49 p.m., a complaint was received of a possible stolen side by side ATV from the Yorkton area being hauled on a trailer southbound on Highway 47 approaching Melville.  The truck and trailer continued southbound on Highway 47 where it was engaged by police with lights and sirens activated near Killaly.

The suspect vehicle made several evasive turns down grid roads and onto private property attempting to evade police. At this point the driver of the suspect vehicle was recognized and identified by police. The rough terrain did not allow for the police vehicles to get close enough to stop the suspect vehicle and it was able to head back toward the road.

A civilian vehicle had pulled into the approach in an attempt to block the suspect in, however was struck by the suspect continuing to flee. The vehicle then continued southbound on Highway 47. Broadview Detachment was called to set up a spikebelt. The driver was able to evade the spikebelt and police stopped pursuing at approximately 7:51 p.m. due to the increased danger of the suspect vehicle approaching the busy #1 Highway. The suspect was continued to be followed by civilians and got stuck on a grid road near Indian Head. The driver then abandoned the vehicles and fled on foot.

Sean CARSON (b: 1976-04-13) of Melville was arrested the next morning at Melville. CARSON is charged with Possession of Property over $5,000 Obtained by Crime, Operating a Motor Vehicle while being Pursued by Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Mischief over $5,000. CARSON will be appearing in custody in Yorkton Provincial Court this morning.

Another adult male is also in custody awaiting identification and pending charges.
