White Butte RCMP

12:12 p.m.

This morning at 1:20 a.m., White Butte RCMP received a complaint of a distraught adult male in a residence in Pilot Butte. The initial report was that he had access to weapons and was distraught.

Members attended the scene and established a perimeter. Additional resources were also deployed including crisis negotiators, RCMP Police Dog Services, and Emergency Response Team.

This morning at approximately 10:30 a.m., the adult male left the residence with what appeared to be a bladed weapon held to his neck.

A member on the scene deployed a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). However, it was ineffective. The CEW was deployed because the members were concerned he would hurt himself or others with the bladed weapon. Members continued negotiating with the adult male and at 11:25 a.m. he was taken into custody. He was taken to hospital in Regina for a health assessment.

The investigation is ongoing and members will be on the scene for the next several hours.
