The Prince Albert A&W Bears extended their season and the Prince Albert Mintos had theirs put on hold following Midget AAA playoff action on Saturday.

The Bears hung on for a 2-1 win over the Weyburn Gold Wings in Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League action at the Art Hauser Centre while the Mintos were swept from the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League playoffs with a 4-1 setback in the Battlefords.

The Bears and Gold Wings will play Game 3 tonight in Weyburn with that best-of-five series tied at one game apiece. The Mintos will have just over two weeks off before they host the Western Regional championship with their first game taking place April 3 against the champions from Northern Ontario.

Tylor Lindsay and Kayla McNab, with her first-eve goal at the Midget AAA level, staked the Bears to a 2-0 advantage in the first 10 minutes of Saturday's game with Weyburn notching their lone goal with 7.3 seconds remaining in the game.

Jessica Vance for the Bears and Jane Kish for Weyburn were both spectacular once again combining for 63 saves as Vance blocked 29 and the diminutive Kish kicked out 34 after the rough start.

In the Battlefords, Jared Blaquiere got the Mintos on the board first, but it was all Stars after that as they scored once in the second and three times in the third to complete the three-game sweep.

The Battlefords will now meet either the Notre Dame Argos or Regina Pat Canadians in the league final with that other semifinal match all square at one game each.
