The driver of the minivan, sustained minor injuries, but did not require hospitalization.

North West Regional Traffic Service RCMP

2014-02-07 - 08:15 hrs

On February 5th, 2014 members of the North Battleford Traffic Services Unit were conducting a Traffic Stop near a busy intersection in North Battleford during rush hour.

During the course of the roadside investigation, a young child passenger was observed by the officer walking between the stopped vehicle and the police vehicle directly into the path of oncoming traffic. Recognizing the danger, the officer immediately jumped out of his police vehicle, grabbing the child and jumping back into safety just in time.

The RCMP Traffic Services would like to take this opportunity to remind the motoring public to use caution when passing emergency vehicles who are engaged in traffic investigations at the roadside. In Saskatchewan vehicles are required to slow to 60 Km/hr when passing emergency vehicles with their emergency lights activated. These emergency zones can be extremely unpredictable and a little extra caution and distance could mean the difference between taking a life or saving one.
