On September 9, 2013 at 3:18 a.m., North Battleford RCMP responded to a report of a sudden death in a residence.  When members arrived at the residence in North Battleford they found a deceased 15-year-old male.  Investigators determined during their initial investigation that the death was not suspicious or criminal in nature and that the deceased did not die from natural causes.  On September 26, 2013, additional information was provided to investigators by the mother of the deceased that lead investigators to begin investigating allegations the son was a victim of bullying.

As part of this investigation, a full forensic examination of the deceased's cell phone and personal computer were completed.  Investigators reviewed in excess of 16,000 individual text messages, several hundred images and Facebook messages and approximately 30 videos.  No evidence of any harassing or other related criminal behaviour was uncovered.  Prior to the incident of September 9th, 2013, police had received no complaints from the deceased, his family or any other person relating to harassment or other criminal behaviour.  Members from the North Battleford Detachment recently met with the deceased's parents and advised them of the status and findings of this investigation.
