File #2014-13440

Deschambault Lake RCMP received a complaint of overdue travelers from family members on Friday, January 3, 2014 at midnight. Four males, all in their thirties, went ice fishing in the Deschambault Lake area and were overdue to return. On duty members obtained the details from the complainant and searched throughout the night.

The temperature was in the minus 30’s, plus wind chill. Deschambault Lake Detachment members used available resources and snowmobiles on Saturday, January 4, 2014 and searched Deschambault Lake. The four males were located approximately 6.5 kilometers from entry onto the ice and searchers and the four males returned to shore at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The truck was stuck due to snow and ice and the four males had stayed with the vehicle throughout the night. All four were returned to awaiting family members. The four were chilly and happy to see the searchers. There are no injuries.

Deschambault Lake RCMP would like to thank the public for their assistance in searching for the four overdue travelers.

RCMP encourage everyone to take necessary precautions in winter weather. If you are venturing out ensure you let someone know of your location and expected return time. Take extra supplies, dress appropriately and be aware of changing weather conditions.
