More than 220 male and female artistic gymnasts from across the province converged on the High Noon Optimist Centre on the weekend for the annual Prince Albert Aerials “Under the Big Top” invitational competition. The event is held annually and is part of a provincial circuit where competitors need to achieve two qualifying standards in order to advance to the provincial championships, which will be held in Lloydminster in May. The Aerials had 46 competitors in the various age and skill levels with a number of them finishing in the top two in their respective divisions. Those who placed in the top two were: Shyloh Stratychuk – second – provincial 1 open; Ethan Regnier – second – level 1 10-and-under; Madison Nicholson – second – provincial 2 open and second – provincial 3 novice; Lacey Robbins – second – provincial 3 tyro; Rebecca Gange – first – provincial 4 novice; Laura Placsko – fourth – provincial 4 novice (four-tenths of a point out of second place); Caylin Leia – second – provincial 4 open; Kelsey Hurl – first – provincial 5 open; Serra Gillis – first – aspire. All competitors performed on all disciplines – beam, vault, floor and uneven bars – with points from each event being used to determine the overall champion in each category.
