Rieben rink wins Thompson Rock

Published on January 7, 2013

The road to the 2013 SaskTel Tankard, the provincial men’s curling championship, officially got under way on the weekend with local teams competing for the Thompson Rock, symbolic of the No. 1 qualifier out of the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club. A low number of entries in the competition resulted in a revamped schedule as the six rinks played a round-robin to determine the Thompson Rock champion. The Peter Rieben foursome, which also includes Justin Hurl, Justin Dinney and Brad Teichreb, posted a 4-1 record to top the field with Cliff McBeath, Ian Mayoh, Doug Phelps, Robin Shillington and Bryan Rindal skipping the other entries. All six local clubs will move on to the regional playdowns next weekend in Prince   Albert with two other teams from LaRonge also taking part. Four teams from the regional competition will advance to the northern playdowns in Kindersley with two rinks from that event moving on to the SaskTel Tankard, which is scheduled for the Northern Lights Palace in Melfort the final weekend of January. Shown in the photo are the members of the Rieben team, from left, Rieben, Hurl, Dinney and Teichreb. Submitted Photo
