Bill introduced to protect wild ponies in Saskatchewan's Bronson Forest
REGINA THE CANADIAN PRESS The Canadian Press
Sask
atchewan is considering passing a law to save wild ponies from being shot.
A private members bill has been introduced in the legislature that would protect a herd of ponies that live in the Bronson Forest, northeast of Lloydminster.
Saskatchewan Party MLA Tim McMillan says he introduced the bill after a rancher in the area showed him photos of ponies that had been shot.
McMillan, who is also a rancher, says there were more than 125 wild ponies in the Bronson Forest in 2005 but there are less than 40 left now.
He says the ponies could disappear if they're not protected.
The proposed law is to be debated next week and is expected to be backed by the Saskatchewan Party government and the Opposition NDP.
