BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Buffalo Sabres have added some goaltending insurance.

They acquired Mikael Tellqvist from the Phoenix Coyotes on Wednesday in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick.

Sabres starter Ryan Miller is currently sidelined with an ankle injury. Patrick Lalime has been getting the starts in his place.

Tellqvist has appeared in 15 games for the Coyotes this season and has a 7-5-1 record with a .907 save percentage and 2.86 goals-against average.

The 29-year-old is earning US$800,000 and will be an unrestricted free agent this summer.

In another move, the Sabres agreed to a US$9-million, two-year contract extension with centre Tim Connolly. He would have been a free agent on July 1.

He has 26 points (11-15) in 29 games for the Sabres this season.
