Holy Cross continued its dominance in the Prince Albert Catholic School Division track meet this week.

At the conclusion of the two-day meet on Tuesday at Harry Jerome Track, the school had wrapped up the aggregate title for total points added up from all age categories. In all 20 years of the meet's history, Holy Cross has come out on top.

The kindergarten to Grade 8 school topped St. Michael, St. Anne, Rivier, St. Francis, W.F.A. Turgeon and St. John.

"We practise quite a bit," said Holy Cross coach Terry Springett. "We spend a lot of hours in mornings and after school practising. Kids really enjoy track at Holy Cross ... We're usually one of the smallest schools, because of the French immersion, so we don't have as big of enrolment, but we do get a lot of really good kids."

Holy Cross won three age categories, atom girls, peewee girls and bantam boys. And Holy Cross student McKenzie Lucas won for most individual points in an age category, topping all peewee girls.

Lucas won the 60-, 100- and 150-metre dashes and placed fourth in long jump.

Lucas's schoolmate Brianne Murray also had a strong meet. The 13-year-old, who was also competing in the peewee girls' division, won gold in high jump, silver in the 100 metres and triple jump and finished third in long jump.

"I probably could've done better in some of my events, but I did pretty good considering it was colder out today," Murray said.

Springett said it was a strong team effort at the meet, but pointed out Jason Duret, Josh Elliot and Erin Hagemeister as other athletes who performed particularly well.

Other school aggregate winners included Rivier (bantam girls), St. John (peewee boys) and St. Francis (atom boys).

All local public elementary schools compete in their city track meet today and Thursday in the Prince Albert and Area Athletic Association Extravaganza at Prime Ministers' Park.
