The Regina Riot of the Prairie Gold Lacrosse League are saving their gas.

The Riot were scheduled to make their lone appearance of the season at the Kinsmen Arena on Sunday to take on the Prince Albert Predators. For unknown reasons, the Riot have forfeited Sunday’s tilt.

Sunday’s cancelled matchup was the final game of the Predators 2014 regular season schedule as they finish the campaign with a 8-4-0 record heading into the playoffs.

In a new playoff format, the No. 1 team in the PGLL receives an automatic bye to the “final four weekend” in Saskatoon while the league’s six other teams duke it out in a seeded format to punch their ticket to the Bridge City.

With 16 points in the standings, the Predators sit four points behind the No. 2 Saskatoon Smash and the No. 1 Regina Rifles while the Saskatoon Steelers trail behind them in fourth.

The Predators have locked up third place in the PGLL and will take on whichever team finishes in sixth upon conclusion of the league’s season on June 27.

The Predators playoff tilt against the sixth seeded team is schedule for 7 p.m. on July 5 at the Kinsmen Arena.

Here’s a look at the Predators potential playoff opponents:

Yorkton Bulldogs -- 2-6-1 (Fifth)

Games remaining: 3

Leading Scorer -- Paul Toth (18 G, 5A)

Season Series Vs. Predators:

P.A. @ Yorkton -- 11-2

P.A. @ Yorkton -- 7-3

On Wednesday, the Bulldogs sat fifth in the PGLL standings with three games left to play. The Predators have had their way with the Bulldogs this season in two meetings on the road. Following up on a 11-2 triumph on May 31, the Predators defeated the Bulldogs yet again on Sunday with a 7-3 win in Yorkton.

Regina Riot -- 1-7-2 (Sixth)

Games remaining: 2

Leading Scorer -- Liam Diebel (27 G, 23A)

Season Series Vs. Predators:

No Games Played

Sitting in sixth place, there might not be any avoiding the Predators come playoff time. The Riot have won just one game this season as they have two left to play against the Estevan Big Dogs and the Bulldogs. The Predators have not faced off against the Riot this season.

Estevan Big Dogs

1-9-1 (Seventh)

Games remaining: 1

Leading Scorer -- Micheal Bittman (53 G, 19 A)

Season Series Vs. Predators:

Estevan @ P.A. -- 8-10

P.A. @ Estevan -- 20-5

Sitting in last place with one game to play, the Big Dogs can make a jump up to the sixth seed with a win against the Riot in their final game on June 27. For the Big Dogs to clinch sixth and take on the Predators, the Riot would also need to lose their tilt with the Bulldogs on Saturday.
