Crusaders girls ready to defend 4A title at Hoopla

PRINCE ALBERT - The Carlton Crusaders senior girls' basketball team will defend their 4A provincial championship next weekend in Moose Jaw after defeating the Regina O'Neill Titans 59-39 at Carlton Comprehensive on Saturday at one of four regional tournaments.

The Crusaders were led by Dalyce Emmerson's 16 points, in about 15 minutes of play. Emmerson rolled her right ankle halfway through the second quarter with her team up 32-10. With the Crusaders worried about their fallen teammate, Reginal took full advantage, closing the gap to 32-21.

But, Kristin Czychowski's two-point shot at the buzzer restored momentum for the Crusaders heading into the half.

The Crusaders will take on Moose Jaw Peacock in the semifinal on Friday.

Meanwhile, the St. Mary Marauders senior boys' continued to roll past the competition, beating Meadow Lake 103-52 to advance to the 4A boys' semifinal at Hoopla.
