The Blair Morgan Family Trust event on Saturday night was a huge success, say organizers, with a lot of people in attendance.

"It was a wonderful turnout," said Doug Patrick, a family friend and volunteer for the fundraising event. Morgan, who suffered a spinal injury during a motocross event last fall, was even in attendance and stayed well into the evening with his family.

"It was fairly unique to have Blair at an event so quickly after his accident," said Patrick.

In addition to the dinner and the live entertainment, there was also an inspirational speech delivered by Ashley Anderson, daughter of Daren Anderson who suffered from a similar spinal injury a decade ago.

"I wanted to speak of the effect that paralysis and spinal cord injuries has on the family," said Ashley.

Ashley's father suffered from a fall 12 years ago that resulted in him becoming paralyzed from the waist down.

Ashley talked about how her family dealt with the tragedy.

"As a family we overcame a ton of fears," said Ashley. "And we began to see people with disabilities not as disabled anymore, but as differently abled."

Saturday's event raised $80,000 for the Blair Morgan Family Trust.

"We received great support from everyone," said Patrick. "And this will prove to be very beneficial to Blair and his family."

I would hope that Ski-Doo,7C Racing and Blair had a good disability clause in his contract as I am sure they all know the dangers in such a sport.I only hope we can do the same for families that are not famous and maybe not as well off. Good luck Blair and thanks for putting Prince Albert on the map all those years. You were and still are a super star in our eyes.

A zero tax increase for this years budget
will take the city six years to catch up
running on all cylinders. Election must be around the corner.
