Blair Morgan continues efforts to adjust to paralysis

As Blair Morgan adjusts to a life of paralysis, friends and well-wishers continue to hold benefits to raise money for the former motocross and snocross racer.

"His recovery and attitude has been phenomenal," said Doug Patrick, a family friend and contact for the benefit.

Morgan has remained in high spirits throughout and has kept his reputation of being a fighter.

"I am really excited about how the community has been coming together for me," said Morgan. "It is good to know you're not alone out there."

Morgan's injuries - sustained during a motocross event last autumn - left him paralyzed from the middle of his back down.

However, he continues to be working with physiotherapists and medical specialists and is focused on the goal of a full recovery.

Throughout his career Morgan has focused on raising awareness and funds in support of spinal injury research.

He has also participated during his career in the "Ride for a Cure" campaign with the Canadian Spinal Research Organization, and the organization itself will be running the benefit in co-operation with the community and trust campaign.

"We are happy to be involved," said Wayne Archibald, Canadian Spinal Research Organization's director of operations. "A spinal injury can be a real uncertain thing."

"We are getting lots of really good support from everyone," said Patrick, "Prince Albert has really stepped up again to show support."

Ridiculous. Live your scared life in a bubble. Blair Morgan has given a lot more than he has taken. He has made a much more positive impact on more people than you can imagine. He has and is raising funds for spinal cord awareness and research. I am behind him 100% and am proud to return the support now that he needs it.

This is in regards to the comment involving him having money. No matter how much you have no one plans for these things to happen. The costs of things he will need in the future are unreal. I know this because my child became a paraplegic at the age of thirteen do to an accident. We were very fortunate and appreciative of the help from the community and SGI. But even with that we still had to take out loans we will be paying off for the next ten years to pay for the items they need for future as well as any renovations that needed to be done that were not covered by insurance. A wheelchair costs as much as a car alone. So please dont think of the money he may have but think of the support he needs to get through this and the strentgh and encouragement. Thankfully both my child and Blair have survived their accidents and I am sure Blair will continue to support the community as well in his future. He has already given so much back to youth. To Blair's family please know that life does get better again and you will all get through this. We did!

If you've ever been entertained or impressed by Blairs abilities then supporting this remarkable person and his family are worthwhile efforts.

For Prince Albert, naming a street after him should be a proud moment. I hope they have the foresight to do that.

For the people of Prince Albert you should take this opportunity to go out and spend $30 and offer thanks to a guy who, within his respective sports, put PA on the map.

So here's the issue that I have...never in a million year does anybody ever expect that they will get hurt or have an accident that will change their lives forever. But then there are those people who take risks everyday knowing that if they go their whole life without injury or accident, they are EXTREMELY lucky. I am all for raising funds and donating to people or causes where the injury or accident is just that...an accident. But this guy took the chance each and every time he got onto a sled with the full knowledge of what could happen to him and his family should he get hurt. I don't think it is the community's responsibility to cover medical costs incurred that could have been prevented a million times over. Did he think about what this would do to his children emotionally and financially should he get hurt?? Maybe he should have considered that each and every time he got onto a sled and ask himself whether it was worth the risk. And if the answer if yes it is worth it , cover your own butt and be insured through the roof to cover expenses when the need arises, don't rely on the whole of the community that choose NOT to take those chances with their own lives or lives of others.

I agree with preturbed. Wish no evil on anyone. Risky career huge potential payoff huge potential for disaster. Sorry it happened. I have no doubt the Blair has been very generous with his blessings, and the causes that benefitted from him I'm sure are grateful. Generosity isn't about giving while you got it and asking for it back when you lose it. That would be a savings account.

    DanS:

I probably won't be going. You bet he has a family to think about. And as previously stated by Perturbed he knew the risks he was taking and should have and probably did have enough insurance to take care of things when disaster srtikes.

So keep the ...he has a young family to think about... sermon.

I agree- if you don't think he should be getting assistance from the community- don't go! And you know, this is getting a lot of attention because Blair is somewhat of a celebrity here, but if it were anyone else, there would still be fund raisers! It would just be a little lower profile.

Now THIS is who should have a street named after him. Blair Morgan has done a lot for PA, not only his international reputation and accomplishments, he has been very generous in donating time and money for fundraisers over the years. Prince Albert should be behind him now as he again shows his class and generosity.

I don't think it's about the money, it's showing how much community support he has.

This is a benefit fundraiser. Nobody is begging you to donate or show up. If you don't think he deserves the money, then don't go.

This isn't just about him, he has a young family you must think about as well.

Name a street after Blair........absolutely! But I'm not sure about the need to raise fund for him. Isn't it all part of the package for the career he had? Fame popularity huge income and, unfortuantely risk. I don't for one second believ he deserved this to happen to him. He has to be more than a millionare a fews time over, money which he earned and more than well deserves. Also he is a resident of SK, a province with comprehensive health benefits to all residents. He must have a pretty big nest egg built up, money for his children, and not much debt. Sure name the street, name the Shellbrook Highway. Maybe second thoughts on throwing money his way. Does it make me a bad person to say what I have said?

Blair if you have not yet contacted the Miami project then contact them. The best spinal cord research in the world is done at the Miami project. The best chances for recovery will happen at this facility. I know people that have been there, it amazing
