The Prince Albert Raiders' pre-season struggles continued on Saturday as they were trounced 12-3 by the Calgary Hitmen at the Co-Operators Centre in Regina.
Sharing time between the pipes, Raiders goaltenders Ian Scott and Rylan Parenteau each allowed six goals as they were outshot by a wide 33-18 margin.
The Hitmen jumped into the lead early, handing the Raiders a 3-0 deficit heading into the second period where they scored seven goals on 12 shots.
Hitmen forwards Pavel Karnaukov, Layne Bensmiller and Chase Lange each scored a pair of goals as the Raiders suffered a second-straight pre-season loss.
While an early second period marker by Raiders forward Craig Leverton cut into the lead, the seven-goal onslaught by the Hitmen in the middle frame handed the Raiders an insurmountable deficit.
With the third period being a moot point, Gage Quinney scored for the Raiders while Leverton tacked on a second marker as the Hitmen cruised to victory.
While the Raiders trimmed their roster down to 32 players following their annual intra squad game on Tuesday, the typical 18 skaters took to the ice on Saturday.
Dressed for the Raiders for their second pre-season contest were forwards Craig Leverton, Dylan Williamson, Luke Coleman, Matteo Gennaro, Simon Stransky, Sean Montgomery, Ryan Pruden, Dylan Stewart, Darcy Zaharichuk, Gage Quinney and Parker Kelly.
In the backend, defencemen Ryan Coghlan, Brendan Guhle, Curtis Roach, Brennan Riddle, Cody Thompson and Cody Paivarinta dressed for the Raiders.
The Raiders wrapped up pre-seaon play in Regina on Saturday and will make their debut at home as they take on the Saskatoon Blades on Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.
The puck drops at 7 p.m.
