The Western Hockey League released the Prince Albert Raiders 2014-2015 schedule on Wednesday and it’s A-Okay with GM Bruno Campese.

Like last season, the Raiders 72-game schedule kicks off with a home-and-home series against the Saskatoon Blades with the first game scheduled for Sept. 19 at the Art Hauser Centre.

“Overall I am pleased with it,” Campese said of the Raiders schedule, which includes a total of 14 Friday and 11 Saturday night tilts at home. “I am pleased for our fans that they are going to have more Fridays and Saturdays than they’ve ever had. That’s a real good thing for our organization.”

A major difference between this season and last’s schedule is that all five of the WHL’s strong American franchises will pay a visit to the Art Hauser Centre.

The Portland Winterhawks, winners of four consecutive Western Conference titles, will visit Prince Albert on Oct. 24.

Last season, the Raiders packed the bus for a grueling six-game road trip, which included stops in each of the league’s American markets.

The Raiders longest road stand this season will be in December, when they embark on a seven-game trip touring the league’s B.C. Division.

Compared to last season’s U.S. Division road swing, Campese said this year’s visit to the Pacific Province from Dec. 3-12 will be just as difficult.

“To get to Victoria is not a picnic, trust me,” Campese said when asked if he prefers the B.C. road trip to last season’s American stand. “You have to get to Vancouver, catch the ferry and then you can’t get off the island until the next morning. I would say they are both equally challenging.”

Regardless of the lengthy road trip, which every team must go through, Campese is pleased with the schedule put together by the league.

“I think our travel is fair and balanced,” he said. “There’s always a couple quirks in the schedule that you aren’t going to like, but I like the balance. I like the way it’s laid out.”

The Raiders will take on their archrival Blades a total of eight times next season; four times at home and four at the Credit Union Center.

After the Raiders season opener at home on a Friday, the Blades will come to town on a pair of Saturdays and one Wednesday night.

“They’re our biggest rival,” Campese said of the Blades. “We have them throughout the course of the season on some pretty good dates.”

Season tickets for the Raiders upcoming season are now on sale. For more information call 306-764-4263 or visit the team’s office at the Art Hauser Centre.
