The Prince Albert Mintos have added another honour to their Telus Cup-winning season.

The team was named the co-winner of the Sask Sport Inc. April Athlete of the Month Award.

The Mintos shared the honour with the Weyburn Gold Wings, who defeated the Edmonton Thunder 2-1 to win their first national female Midget AAA championship.

The Saskatchewan league champions ousted the Prince Albert A&W Bears in four games in the second round of the playoffs back in March.

After the Gold Wings won the provincial title, they defeated Manitoba’s Pembina Valley to win the Western Regional Championships, allowing them to secure a place at the Esso Cup National Championships.

The Mintos, meanwhile, won their third national Midget AAA championship in nine years when they beat the Grenadiers de Châteauguay 4-3 in triple overtime.

Organizations: Telus, Edmonton Thunder 2
