Brooke Hobson lost her crown on Wednesday, but she’ll be handing it over to fellow Prince Albert golfer Kayla Sawchuk.

Sawchuk never missed a beat at the 2014 Saskatchewan Junior Championship at the Evergreen Golf and Country Club in Nipawin as she maintained No. 1 on the girl’s leaderboard throughout the three-round tournament.

On Wednesday, Sawchuk clinched her first girl’s title, shooting a 76 round to cap off a 231-stroke tournament.

Hobson finished right behind Sawchuk, placing second in the tournament with a score of 242. Regina’s Brooke Hill finished in third.

Hobson shot her best round of the tournament on Wednesday with a 73 on the 3,232-yard (from the tips) course, which features four par-fives, 10 par-fours and four par-threes.

Sawchuk dropped a birdie on just one hole while bogeying five as Hobson’s stellar third round was punctuated by birdies on the fifth, seventh and 18th tees.

With their top three finishes, Sawchuk, Hobson and Hill will all represent the province at the Canadian Junior Girls Championship in Thornhill., Ont. on July 29.

On the boy’s side, Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey followed a brilliant 70-stroke performance on Monday and a 72-stroke round on Tuesday with a round of 71 on Wednesday.

Bailey’s total score of 213 was good enough to clinch the boy’s tournament crown with Saskatoon’s Roman Timmerman finishing in second seven strokes behind.

Prince Albert product Cory Selander shot a second-straight 75-stroke round on Wednesday as the 2012 champion finished the tournament in third with a total score of 222.

Joining Selander on the links in Nipawin were five other golfers representing Prince Albert; Cole Hobson (41st), Zach Hurd (T18th), Cory Sawchuk (T6th), Kyle Schneider (25) and Chase Lato (T47th).
