With fellow Prince Albert golfer Brooke Hobson right behind her, Kayla Sawchuk remains in the lead following round two of the 2014 Saskatchewan Junior Championship on Tuesday at the Evergreen Golf and Country Club in Nipawin.
Following up on a two-above-par 75 in her opening round on Monday, Sawchuk tightened her grip on the leaderboard’s No. 1 spot after shooting 80 on Tuesday to lead the pack with 155 strokes.
Sitting behind Sawchuk in second is defending-champion Hobson, who shot an 82 on the 3,232-yard (from the tips) course, which features four par-fives, 10 par-fours and four par-threes.
Sawchuk heads into the tournament’s third and final round on Wednesday with a commanding 14-stroke lead after birdieing the 10th and 18th holes on Tuesday.
On the boy’s side, Shaunavon’s Corey Bailey followed a brilliant 70-stroke performance on Monday with a 72-stroke round on Tuesday to stay atop the leaderboard.
After Tuesday’s round two action, Bengough’s Tyrin Foley sits three stokes behind Bailey, with defending-champion and Prince Albert product Cory Selander not far behind.
Selander, who shot a 72 on Monday, fell to third on the leaderboard after a solid 75-stroke performance on Tuesday. He now trails Foley by two strokes.
Selander dropped birdies on the eight and 12th holes while bogeying two.
Joining Selander on the links in Nipawin are five other golfers representing Prince Albert; Cole Hobson (T42nd), Zach Hurd (T26th), Cory Sawchuk (T23rd), Kyle Schneider (T20th) and Chase Lato (51st).
