Danny Klughart of Prince Albert pulled into fifth place Wednesday at the Saskatchewan Golf Association junior men's championship at the Elmwood Golf and Country Club in Swift Current.

Tied for eighth after Tuesday's opening round, Klughart shot a one-under-par 70 on Wednesday to move into a fifth-place tie with defending champion Dallas Mengel of Saskatoon.

Including a 71 in the first round, the 16-year-old Klughart has a two-day total of 141, which is eight strokes behind front-runner Jesse Gibson, the Saskatoon hotshot who followed a first-round 64 with a 69 Wednesday.

Michael Herperger of Humboldt is in second place with a two-round total of 137 (69-68), four shots back of Gibson. Brennan Rumancik of Maple Creek is third at 138 (71-67), one stroke better than Bobby Sanchez of Lafleche (70-69-139).

The last Prince Albert player to win the junior men's title was David Stewart, who claimed the championship for the third and final time in 2004. He also won the Saskatchewan crown in 2001 and 2002.

From a field of 73 players, the top 36 and ties after today's third round will make the cut for the final round Friday.

After two rounds, Prince Albert golfers Travis Jenkins and Zachary Hurd are among the top 25 players. Jenkins, who was tied for 15th place after his opening-round 72, shot a 76 on Wednesday and now has a 148 total. Hurd, with rounds of 77 and 72, respectively, sits at 149.

Other results from Prince Albert players include: Matt Kelley (76-77-153, 32nd); Brett Henry (77-82-159, 43rd); Ty Jaeger (85-79-164, 52nd); Rylan Hobson (86-86-172, 60th); Justin Paradis (84-91-175, 62nd); Cory Sawchuk (90-88-178, 63rd); and Cole Hobson (96-95-191, 68th).
