Prince Albert and area athletes are off to a good start at the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association track and field championships following the first day of competitions on Friday in Moose Jaw.

Local competitors picked up five medals and a number of top 10 results in the running events on Friday with a trio of St. Mary athletes that includes Nayan Chand, Cole Frank and Austin Strauss being the lone gold medallists. Chand topped the field in the midget boy’s 100-metre hurdles while Frank crossed the finish line first in the junior boy’s 100-metre event and Strauss won the junior boy’s 400-metre race.

Also collecting medals on the first day were Karson Lehner from Carlton Comprehensive High School with a bronze-medal finish in the junior boy’s 100-metre event and Aaron Lemoal from St. Mary, who finished third in the midget boy’s 1500 metres.

Kaden Nilson from Choiceland was the top competitor from the surrounding area as he won a gold and silver in the midget boy’s 1500 and 400-metre races, respectively.

A complete list of local top 10 results will be put on-line and will also appear in Monday’s Daily Herald after all events are completed on Saturday.
