PAVC Smashing Bananas undefeated in Saskatoon and Warman

The Prince Albert Volleyball Club15U Smashing Bananas captured the gold medal at the 2014 Conexus Provincial Volleyball Championships over the weekend in Saskatoon and Warman. The Smashing Bananas defeated Saskatoon JCVC 25-9, 25-18 in the final after going an undefeated 5-0 in pool play. After storming through pool play a perfect 5-0, the PAVC Smashing Bananas struck gold over the weekend at the 2014 Conexus Provincial Volleyball Championship in Saskatoon and Warman. 

As one of several age groups competing in the weekend tournament, the 15U Smashing Bananas men’s team went undefeated en route to taking the gold with a 25-9, 25-18 triumph over the Saskatoon JCVC. 

The Smashing Bananas plowed through pool play, taking out the entire field of teams from Saskatoon, Swift Current, Regina and Strasbourg to book their spot in the final. 

In women’s action, the Prince Albert Optimist Toppers Esprit placed sixth in Tier One of the 15U division while the PAVC Club Fusion team also placed sixth in Tier 4. 

The Prince Albert women fared better in 16U action, taking home bronze and silver medals. 

In Tier One, the PAOT En Fuego mined a bronze medal with a narrow 25-23, 22-25, 15-11 victory over the Saskatoon JCVC Big Red.

In Tier 5, the PAOT Espirt team were defeated 25-22, 25-18 by the Saskatoon Attack in the final match, as they took home the silver.   

The 16U women’s Tier One final along with both 15U men’s a women’s finals will be shown on SaskTel Max TV’s On Demand service. 

Next up for the gold-medal-winning Smashing Bananas, is the 15U Canadian Open Volleyball Championships in Regina on May 17-19.
