St. Mary High School’s Hung Le Tram will be looking for back-to-back provincial badminton championships when he goes to the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association finals next week in Warman.

Tram earned the right to defend his men’s singles title when he captured the regional qualifier this past weekend. Tram, who went through the round-robin with a 3-0 record, defeated Cody Graham from Hudson Bay in semifinal play and then won in straight sets over Darion Sunshine from Wadena in the qualifying final.

Austin Oleksyn from St. Mary also went through the preliminary round-robin with a 3-0 record, but losses in the semifinals and bronze-medal game ended his run at a provincial title.

On the girl’s side, Seika Toida of St. Mary is heading to Warman after finishing second in the girl’s singles competitions on the weekend. Toida was 2-1 in preliminary action and then swept through a semifinal match before falling in straight sets in the gold-medal contest.

Shanai Cabilaro of St. Mary also competed at the regional tournament, but was winless in three preliminary games in girl’s singles action.
