The last stop before the Saskatchewan High School Athletic Association’s HOOPLA basketball championship will be this weekend when regional playdowns are held in both the senior boy’s and girl’s divisions.
St. Mary High School, by virtue of winning their conference last weekend in Tisdale, will be hosting one of the boy’s regional qualifiers with both the Marauders and Carlton Crusaders seeking a spot in the final four for the 4A division.
St. Mary, which is the defending 4A boy’s champions, will play Tisdale in their first game on Friday at 6 p.m. with Carlton taking to the court at 8 p.m. for a game against Yorkton Regional.
The winners of those games will then meet at noon on Saturday to determine who will represent the region next weekend at HOOPLA in Regina.
The senior girl’s regional qualifiers also go this weekend with Carlton playing Humboldt in its first game at an event in Warman while St. Mary is traveling to Moose Jaw to take on Weyburn in its opening match.
Regional finals in the senior girl’s division will also be held on Saturday, but teams must win their opening games to continue having a shot at advancing to HOOPLA.
