The Shellbrook Elks begin their quest to capture an Allan Cup championship on Saturday when they will host the Lloydminster Border Kings in the first game of a best-of-three Saskatchewan Hockey Association Menâs Senior AAA semifinal series at 7:30 p.m. at the Shellbrook Arena.
The Elks, who moved up to the Senior AAA level last year for the first time, were one win away from advancing to the national championship tournament before the Rosetown Red Wings stormed back with three straight wins to capture the provincial final.
Game 2 of the series against the Border Kings will be played in Lloydminster on Sunday with a third and deciding contest scheduled for Wednesday in Shellbrook.
Should the Elks get past Lloydminster they will then have another shot at the Red Wings as Rosetown has gained a bye into the provincial final. The winner of the Saskatchewan championship will then have to go up against a Manitoba champion to determine a western representative for the Allan Cup, which will be played in Dundas, Ont., this year.
