Mintos rally to secure tie with Royals at annual Macâ€™s Invitational tourney

The Prince Albert Mintos capitalized on a two-man advantage late in the third period to secure a point in their opening game at the annual Macâ€™s Invitational Midget AAA hockey tournament in Calgary on Thursday.
Dalin Graham netted the equalizer with three minutes to play as the Mintos battled back from a 2-0 deficit to tie the Calgary Royals 2-2. Teal Sobkowicz had the other Prince Albert goal with Ryan Duret and Lochlan Morrison each collecting two assists for the Mintos.
Connor Ingram turned in another strong performance in the Minto net stopping 26 shots while Prince Albert directed 19 blasts at the Calgary goal. At one point in the second period the Mintos were being outshot 17-3 and trailed the Royals 2-0.
Prince Albert will now have two full days off before their next game when they take on the Edmonton Southside Athletic Club in a late game on Saturday. Other teams in the Mintosâ€™ preliminary pool are the Alaska Junior Aces and Valley West Hawks.
Also in the event from the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League are the Notre Dame Argos, Battlefords Stars, Moose Jaw Generals and the Regina Pat Canadians. The league-leading Argos outscored the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs 6-4 in their opening game while the Battlefords took one on the chin with a 9-1 setback to the Finland under-17 squad. Results from the Generals and Pat Canadiansâ€™ opening games were unavailable.
The tournament runs until New Yearâ€™s Day with the gold-medal game to be broadcast on Shaw TV beginning at 5 p.m.
