There is always a silver lining and for the Prince Albert A&W Bears theirs is that they won’t have to see the Regina Rebels until the playoffs.
The Bears lost both ends of a doubleheader against the defending Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League champion Rebels on the weekend stretching their losing streak against Regina to nine games.
The 4-2 and 8-3 setbacks in Regina this weekend, coupled with a pair of losses in Prince Albert earlier this month, leave Prince Albert with a 2-4-2-1 record overall as they prepare for a two-week break from league play.
The Bears last beat Regina in their second meeting last year – exactly one year ago – and after that the Rebels would win the final two regular-season meetings and then sweep Prince Albert in the best-of-five league final before continuing their dominance this year.
Crystal Berube, Brittany Yeager and Sierra Glass scored for the Bears in Sunday’s setback while Amy Weightman and Aleece Anderson notched the Prince Albert goals in Saturday’s loss.
Prince Albert was outshot badly in both contests – 36-19 on Sunday and 38-22 on Saturday – with Shayla Youngman and Jessica Vance sharing the netminding duties on Sunday while Vance turned aside 34 shots in the Saturday loss.
Prince Albert does not return to action until Nov. 13 when they will host the Saskatoon Stars at the Art Hauser Centre. The Bears will then play their next six games on the road leading up to a doubleheader with Swift Current at home just before the Christmas break.
Two members of the Bears will have little time to dwell on things as Vance and Brooke Hobson will be joining their Team Saskatchewan teammates later this week as they prepare for the national under-18 women’s hockey championship next week in Calgary.
