In the words of New York Yankee great Yogi Berra, the Prince Albert Icehawks must be feeling déjà vu all over again.
Last season when the Icehawks posted just five wins in 40 regular-season games and missed the playoffs for the first time in franchise history, they held a lead going into the third period on a number of occasions, but could not finish off the opposition.
Saturday in Saskatoon against the defending league champion Royals, the Icehawks were tied at 3-3 after 40 minutes of play only to allow nine unanswered goals in a 12-3 loss in Prairie Junior Hockey League pre-season action.
Parker Turner had a pair of goals for Prince Albert while Ron Javier had the other. The Icehawks directed 35 shots at the Saskatoon goal, but they also allowed 48 against.
The loss was the second straight to the Royals as Prince Albert opened the exhibition schedule with a 6-4 setback on home ice earlier in the week.
The Icehawks will conclude the preseason this week with a home-and-home series against the Tri-Town Thunder. The regular schedule begins on Oct. 1 when the Saskatoon Quakers will visit the Kinsmen Arena for a 7:30 p.m. start.
