Prince Albert’s two largest high schools will be buzzing with activity this weekend as a pair of senior volleyball tournaments will open a busy season for all of the participating teams.
At Carlton Comprehensive High School the Crusaders will host a seven-team senior girl’s tournament while at St. Mary High School it will be 16 clubs battling for the senior boy’s championship.
Round-robin action in the Carlton tournament gets under way at 2 p.m. on Friday with subsequent draws continuing until 8 p.m. and then resuming on Saturday at 9 a.m. The playoffs are set to begin at 1 p.m. with the medal games scheduled for a 3 p.m. start on Saturday.
Fans attending the Carlton tournament are reminded that construction continues on the new gymnasium so extra caution is requested when travelling around the facility.
For the St. Mary tournament, round-robin action begins at 3 p.m. on Friday with the 16 teams divided into four pools of four. The original preliminary round will be completed by 10:30 p.m. on Friday with the re-pool draw set to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday.
The top four teams from the re-pool will then advance to the playoffs which are scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. The bronze-medal contest will go at 6:30 p.m. followed by the gold-medal game at 7:30 p.m.
Both local high schools will have teams in each tournament with these events beginning a two-month stretch of activity that hopefully culminates in appearances at the provincial tournaments in mid-November.
