There will be no provincial championship for Prince Albert’s Celtic soccer program this year as the lone team to qualify for the Saskatchewan Premiere Soccer League post-season was edged 2-1 by the QCT United from Regina in the under-16 girl’s final on Sunday in Saskatoon.
The under-16 Celtic girls, which featured a number of players from last year’s provincial under-14 championship squad, had a sensational season winning 10 and losing a pair during the regular schedule with both of the setbacks also coming at the hands of the QCT United squad.
Prince Albert held the upper hand early in the year winning 3-2 and 5-1 before Regina won the final two meetings by identical 2-1 scores.
In Sunday’s championship game Rikki Wilson was the lone goalscorer for Prince Albert, but the Celtic could not get the equalizer to force extra time.
The under-16 girls, along with all of the other players from the outdoor season, will have a short break before the indoor season gets under way early next month. Registrations for the indoor season will be accepted Sept. 3-5 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Alfred Jenkins Field House.
More information on the indoor season can be obtained by calling the Prince Albert Youth Soccer Association office at 306-922-2545.
