Prince Albert’s Scott Lucas needs one more strong race to possibly win another driving title.
Lucas won his third straight feature race on Saturday at Auto Clearing Motor Speedway in Saskatoon to solidify his grip on second place overall in the Truck Super Series and move into position to claim the overall championship when the final race of the season is held on Sept. 14 in Saskatoon.
Lucas, who moved up a level in the truck division after winning the overall title last year, was slow out of the gate to start this season, but in recent weeks he has been unbeatable.
On Saturday, Lucas qualified third overall and then finished second and fifth in the heat races before capturing the feature event in dramatic style. Lucas didn’t take the lead until there were 18 laps remaining and when a caution flag with four laps to go brought the field back together, Lucas remained poised and hung on for the victory.
The Sept. 14 race begins at 2 p.m. with the championship on the line.
