Prince Albert NAPA Raiders know who and when they will be playing in the next round of the Saskatchewan Hockey Association Pee Wee Division provincial playdowns.
The Raiders, who got past North Battleford in the opening draw, will face West Central in Round 2 with the first game this Friday in Prince Albert while the return match in the two-game, total-goal series will be in Dodsland on Jan. 22.
Prince Albert is seeded No. 3 in the northern playoffs with West Central once notch higher. The other northern semifinal will have top-seeded Humboldt taking on Warman.
The NAPA Raiders had just one Centre-Four Hockey League Pee Wee Division league game this week as they battled Warman to a 2-2 tie on Saturday. Rhys Bridge and Brayden Dirks scored for Prince Albert in that game with the two clubs meeting again tonight at 7:15 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre. The Raiders will also be in Melfort on Wednesday to face the North East Wolf Pack.
Liteway Electric Raiders
It was a tough week for the Midget AA Liteway Electric Raiders as one of their top defenseman, Braxx George, was pulled up to the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League’s Prince Albert Mintos for the remainder of the season.
To take George’s place on the roster the Liteway Electric Raiders have promoted Travis Filleau from the Midget A level and he will be part of the team when they take on the Humboldt Broncos in the second round of the SHA Midget Division northern playoffs.
Liteway Electric disposed of Watson in the opening round and now the fifth-seeded Raiders will have the challenge of getting past the No. 3 seed from Humboldt. The Broncos will also be without a veteran defenseman as team captain Jesse Haeusler has also been called up to the Mintos for the remainder of the year.
No dates for that series have been set yet, but a prelude to what lies ahead will be held this Friday when the Broncos visit Prince Albert in a CFHL game at 6:45 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.
Liteway Electric, which is in fifth place in the league standings with an 8-8-3 record, had one league game this week when they lost 6-1 to the North East Wolf Pack and they also travelled to Regina for a tournament on the weekend where they posted a 0-2-1 record in preliminary round-robin play. The Raiders tied the Saskatoon Steel, but dropped games to the Saskatoon Crush and Regina Flames to fall short of advancing to the playoff round.
Venice House Raiders
It was a horrific weekend for the Prince Albert Venice House Raiders in Saskatchewan Bantam AA Hockey League action.
The Raiders had a three-game homestand and were hoping to pull out of a slump that started prior to the Christmas break, but that slump became a nightmare as the team was outscored 24-2 in the three contests.
On Friday, the Raiders were beaten 6-1 by the North Division leading West Central Wheat Kings and when the two clubs met again on Saturday, it was the Wheat Kings dominating by a 9-1 verdict. The weekend was capped with a 9-0 loss to Yorkton on Sunday.
Mikhail Tait and Chris Woods were the lone goalscorers for Prince Albert all weekend with their next league game not scheduled until Jan. 24 when they will travel to Tisdale to take on the North East Wolf Pack
