Sask Sport Inc. announces July Athlete of the Month

A Prince Albert athlete was one of the runners-up for the Sask Sport Inc. July Athlete of the Month Award.

Chelys Vallejo of Prince Albert, who competes in judo, was one of three people who finished behind golfer Tyler Frank of Saskatoon.

Frank won the Provincial Men’s Mid-Amateur Championship on July 9-11, and then won the Provincial Men’s Amateur Championship on July 16-19. He is only the second person to win both championships in the same year.

The other nominees were Jessica Furlan of Regina in athletics and Ben Lapointe of Saskatoon in canoe/kayak.

Vallejo recently competed in the 2012 National Judo Championship in Toronto, where she won a gold in the veteran (30 years old and older) +78kg and a bronze in the senior (20 years old and over) +78kg.
