Prince Albert will be well represented in the Championship Flight when match play begins Tuesday at the annual Pepsi Junior Lobstick golf tournament in Waskesiu Lake.
Kyle Wiebe of Madison recorded the low round in boy’s qualifying on Monday when he blazed his way around the Waskesiu Lake Golf Course with an even-par 71. Just two shots back are Prince Albert’s Cory Selander, Justin Paradis and Cory Sawchuk and one more shot back at 74 is another member from Cooke Municipal Golf Course, Zach Hurd. Rounding out the local representation in the Championship Flight is Luke Pauli and Logan Fauchoux, who carded a 76 and 77, respectively.
In opening-round matches today, Wiebe will face Jimmy Lambert from Saskatoon, Bryan Matkowski from Saskatoon will take on Garrett Blair from Lanigan, Selander squares off against Mitchell McPhail from LaRonge, Sawchuk tangles with Pauli, Mike Fiegel from Moose Jaw meets Aaron Baker from Humboldt, Hurd entertains Jackson Hill from Humboldt, McKenzie Russell from Saskatoon plays Fauchoux and Paradis goes up against Liam Courtney from Waskesiu Lake.
Match-play in all flights begins today and will continue all week with flight finals scheduled for Friday.
The girl’s portion of the Lobstick has just five players competing with Prince Albert’s Brooke Hobson recording a 77 on Monday to grab the early lead in that medal-play event. Clubmate Kayla Sawchuk registered an 81 to sit four shots back with the junior girls resuming play Tuesday.
