Canada needs more diplomacy, less tough talk on Russia

To the editor:

Without due diligence Canada’s military has been committed to patrolling the border of Russia andUkraine.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said Russia has launched an “invasion” into Eastern Ukraine. He acted precipitously in so doing.

He did not wait to balance the veracity of statements being madeby the Ukrainian president by judging them against those of President Putin and impartial observers.

Current views that the “Russian invasion” of Ukraine, turns out to have been a “translation error,” and “Cuban missile crisis 2.0 — NATO approaches Russian border.”

Are placing Baird’s reaction in disrepute internationally.

Canada’s Government has been leading the charge against Russia, in this instance by crying invasion, going farther than President Obama who declined to call the Russian incursion in Ukraine an “invasion.”

Next week Canada’s PM is to visit the United Kingdom and attend NATO Summit in Wales. Hopefully it will be as a voice for meaningful discussion rather than preparation for war.
