Prince Albert’s spirit of volunteerism is certainly on display again.

If you’ve been to the Art Hauser Centre in the last couple of days, there are folks everywhere in bright jackets and shirts taking tickets, directing traffic and watching the doors at the AAA Midget Western Regionals.

Events of that scale don’t happen by accident or without a significant investment of time.

After the event was announced last fall, a large group of volunteers have been hard at work making everything as perfect as possible for the four teams and our many visitors.

The very nature of sport ensures that only one group of the young men competing will move on to the Telus Cup in Moose Jaw. Three other teams will ultimately face disappointment.

Let’s hope that when the sting of losing passes, that they are able to look back on the experience with warmth. The odds of playing in the NHL might be low but they’ll always have the memories of the year that they nearly played in a national championship.

So to Joe Bexson and his team, thank you for your work that will allow these young men to follow their dreams.
