RCMP Integrated Organized Crime Unit South
In November, 2012, the RCMP Integrated Organized Crime Unit South received a complaint from a Canadian financial institution of suspicious banking transactions. Investigators initiated an investigation and began the examination of thousands of pieces of evidence, including financial transactions.
Information obtained during the initial stage of the investigation lead investigators to request several production orders. On October 9, 2013, searches were conducted in the following locations: an acreage in the RM of Sherwood, a residence on Bergamont Bay in Regina and a business on the 1400 block of Scarth Street. During these searches investigators gathered further evidence and seized items considered to be proceeds of crime, including: four luxury vehicles, recreational vehicles, cash, jewelry, electronics, and other household items.
The information investigators gathered during these searches resulted in more than 50 interviews being conducted. Information learned during these interviews along with the overall analysis of evidence gathered by investigators during the 14-month-long investigation has resulted in Tyler William YOUNG, of Regina, (DOB: 1983-09-16) being charged with the following:
- Fraud over $5000, Section 380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (3 counts)
- Possession of property over $5000 obtained by crime, Section 354(1)(a) and 355(a) of the Criminal Code
- Laundering proceeds of crime, Section 462.31(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
- Forgery, Section 367 of the Criminal Code (3 counts)
- Utter a forged document, Section 368(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (3 counts)
- Identity theft, Section 402.2(1) of the Criminal Code (2 counts)
- Identity fraud, Section 403(a) of the Criminal Code (2 counts)
Due to the complexity of this investigation, six RCMP members have been dedicated to this file since the initial complaint was received. This has included the examination of thousands of pieces of evidence. Investigators were also able to prevent a $10 million fraudulent investment deal from taking place. Information relating to the prevention of this fraud will be presented as evidence during the court process.
YOUNG was arrested on January 15, 2014 and appeared before a judge and was placed on several conditions including not to have any contact with any of the victims and not to solicit further investments. His next court appearance is January 30, 2014 at 9:30 in Regina.
The Regina Police Service assisted the RCMP Integrated Organized Crime Unit South with the investigation. The investigation is ongoing.
Investigators are expecting the Crown to request a publication ban restricting information that can be reported on; therefore, the media are asked to check with the court prior to reporting any details relating to this investigation.
