An arrest has been made in connection with the death of Jodi Roberts near Sucker River last month.

Roberts was reported missing by her family on Nov. 6. Her remains were discovered near the community on Nov. 27.

The RCMP Major Crimes Unit North, along with members of the La Ronge RCMP detachment, have arrested a 27-year-old male from Sucker River.

Sgt. Richard Price of the La Ronge RCMP attributed the arrest to several factors.

“I won’t get into anything specific,” Price said. “But we’ll just say it’s a combination of any tips that we got either from the public, from witness statements, from following the physical evidence that we obtained through our investigation -- the culmination of all three of those.”

Police received tips through phone calls to the local RCMP detachment as well as through Crime Stoppers.

“We just keep following the information and any leads that we have until we either exhaust all the information or until we keep making progress, and that’s kind of what happened in this case,” Price said.

“We just kept following all the information until we were able to identify a suspect and ended up laying the charges here this morning.”

The RCMP treat all missing persons and murder victim cases as high-priority investigations.

Details of the investigation leading to the arrest were sparse as of Thursday, with more expected to be revealed as the case works its way through the legal system.

Meanwhile, police are anxious to tie up any and all loose ends.

“We’re continuing to investigate and make sure that all of our leads that are still either outstanding or any other additional information that we require to successfully prosecute the case will be followed up with,” Price said.

Ricky Jonathan Ross (also known as Jonathon Ricky Ross) has been charged with first-degree murder and offering an indignity to a body.

He appeared in court on Thursday morning in La Ronge Provincial Court.

The case has been adjourned until Jan. 13.
