Prince Albert is looking forward to the Kraft Celebration Tour, which will be coming through the city next week. The city has already won $25,000 to help fix the waterslides at the Kinsmen Water Park and hopes to be the grand prize winner.
The Kraft Celebration Tour will need help with the set-up and take down of the event next Wednesday, said Shelia Fazio, volunteer co-ordinator for the local organizing committee.
“It is helping with the main stage,” she said. “They are just asking for some extra hands on to put their stage together … They have crew that is coming with the stage, of course, they just need some extra hands putting all the stuff around it.”
The set-up will take place at 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the tear down will be 5 to 7 p.m.
Since they already have the majority of the 90 volunteers needed for the event, Fazio said she is only looking for about 15 more people to help that day -- about five for the set-up and eight for the take down.
“Once people phone in, if we are maxed out I can at least start a little list of spares if someone backs out,” Fazio said.
The city was nominated for the Kraft Celebration Tour after Shannon Hurl decided to take matters into her own hands after learning the Kinsmen Water Park slides would be closed for the season due to safety concerns.
When city council said they could only foot $60,000 of the $260,000 bill in order to fix both the structure and the surfacing of the slides, Hurl nominated the water park for the Kraft Celebration Tour grand prize of $100,000.
“We do automatically get $25,000 being one of the top 10 and then the voting that happened in July, the project with the most votes will get an additional $75,000,” Fazio said. “We don’t find out until Aug. 25 of who the winner of that is.”
Although the community will have to wait until Aug. 25 to find out who the grand prize winner is, Fazio said the experience has really brought people together.
“I think it has brought the community together with the voting and coming out to the slides and the broadcast,” she said. “However it turns out, hopefully we win but if not, it has been a good community support project that we’ve been doing.”
The event will be exciting family fun for all citizens to enjoy. There will be brand activation activities, free samples of Kraft products, games and free swimming at the water park.
After the free barbecue and activities, TSN SportsCentre will be doing a live broadcast in the city.
“I’m excited too about that, because I’ve never been involved in a live broadcast, so that will be good to see how it is put together and get the crowd and community all involved and have the chance to be on TV,” Fazio said. “I think it will just be really exciting.”
The free swimming is at 1 p.m., the barbecue, games and activities will start at 2 p.m. and the live broadcast will be at 4 p.m.
“I just hope people will come out -- there is a free barbecue and all the samples are free, so there will be food for people and activities,” Fazio said. “It should be a really good day and you could get your face on TV possibly.”
