Parkland Ambulance Paramedics are reminding residents to protect themselves from high noise levels when using outdoor equipment.

Items such as lawn mowers, gas powered lawn trimmers, leaf blowers, power saws and other power tools can be very loud. A lawn mower tends to produce 90 decibels of noise and a power drill 100 decibels, compared to 115 decibels for an ambulance siren.

Hearing protection is recommended for any noise higher than 85 decibels. If required, residents should make sure to wear hearing protection in addition to gear such as gloves and eye protection.
