11-year-old boy dead: impaired driving charges laid

An 11-year-old boy is dead after he was struck by a motor vehicle near Muskoday First Nation at about 7 p.m. on Saturday.



The Prince Albert RCMP reported on Sunday that the boy was riding his bicycle with a group of friends along the side of Highway 3 near the Muskoday Bridge when he was struck.

Parkland Ambulance Care paramedics cared for the boy on site, taking him to Victoria Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

No other youth were injured in the incident.

As a result of the incident, Prince Albert RCMP arrested a 51-year-old man at the scene of the incident, charging him with impaired operation of a motor vehicle causing death as well as dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.

The suspect is being held in custody pending his first appearance at Prince Albert Provincial Court on Monday morning.

RCMP collision analyst, Tisdale RCMP forensic identification specialists and the Prince Albert RCMP general investigation section attended the scene to assist in investigating the incident.

Investigation into this matter is ongoing, with more information released once it becomes known.
