Police recovered a stolen vehicle on Tuesday after an early morning pursuit in which the driver left the vehicle to roll into a line of parked cars.
The episode began at approximately 12:28 a.m., when police received a call from a citizen that their relative’s stolen vehicle was in the 3600 block of Second Avenue West. Police arrived in the area but were unable to find the vehicle.
At 12:50 a.m., patrol members saw a vehicle matching the description of the stolen vehicle at Sixth Avenue and 15th Street West. The vehicle proceeded northbound to River Street, after which it proceeded eastbound at a high rate of speed before turning southbound onto Central Avenue.
The officers turned on their sirens and a brief criminal pursuit began. The suspect vehicle proceeded to Fifth Avenue, at which point the driver exited the vehicle and left it to roll into a line of parked cars. Two vehicles sustained damage.
Police service dog Jagger was called out to the scene and began to track the driver. The search was eventually called off without the driver of the vehicle being found.
The stolen vehicle was recovered by police and is currently being processed by the Forensic Identification Unit.
