Charges have been laid against a 29-year-old Prince Albert man in relation to the aggravated assault of Marlene Bird.

Prince Albert police have arrested and charged the man with attempted murder and aggravated sexual assault in connection with the June 1 incident that left Bird, 47, with life-threatening injuries.

Police made the arrest on Saturday evening and executed a search warrant for evidence in relation to the crime at the residence of the accused.

The accused has been remanded in custody until his first scheduled court appearance on Wednesday, July 2 at 9:30 a.m. in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Marlene Bird remains in hospital, where she is reportedly recovering from the injuries she suffered in the attack.

Police may release additional information at their weekly news conference on Monday.
