Critical injuries reported in assault under investigation

The 1200 block of First Avenue West is seen cordoned off by police on Sunday following an assault that left a 47-year-old woman in critical condition. 

Facing critical injuries following an assault in the 1200 block of First Avenue West, a 47-year-old woman was taken by ambulance to hospital on Sunday.

 

At the Victoria Hospital, the woman was stabilized and then sent to Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital in critical condition.

Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene at about 10:15 a.m., with police subsequently taping off 12th Street from 1st Avenue West to Second Avenue West -- an area that includes the Margo Fournier Centre.

This area will remain off limits until further notice.

When contacted on Sunday afternoon, Sgt. Brandon Mudry said that the investigation is too fresh to provide any more information at this time.

Police are requesting anyone from the public with information to come forward, either by phoning the Prince Albert Police Service at 306-953-4222 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

    Prince Albert has a huge problem with gangs, drugs and alcohol abuse. We read about it every weekend. It is time to crack down on known users and people arrested for alcohol. Why do the courts keep letting these people off? They need huge fines and if they can't pay, then go to jail.
