Local Kiwanis Club member Karen Bell, left, joined St. Paul’s Mission and Outreach member Debbie Salmond in manning the till at Saturday’s garage sale fundraiser at Parkland Community Hall.

The name of their effort says it all -- “Tri to Send Kids to Camp.”

On Saturday, the group’s effort, heralded by St. Paul’s Mission and Outreach, the local Kiwanis Club and Ranch Ehrlo Society, held a garage sale at Parkland Community Hall to help fund kids’ summer camp experience.

“Last year we sent 140 kids to camp with the money we made from the different thigns we held,” St. Paul’s Mission and Outreach member Debbie Salmond summarized.

“They go through a regular application process, and I don’t think we’ve ever turned kids away.”

Kids are drawn from Queen Mary, King George and Riverside Community Schools, she said, noting that at a cost of $210 per child there’s plenty of money to be raised.

Joining Salmond at the cash box on Saturday was local Kiwanis Club member Karen Bell.

“Because Kiwanis is basically all for kids, ‘We help the children of the world’ -- that’s our slogan” she said.

Well-connected with Ranch Ehrlo, the three groups came together alongside the entire community for the weekend garage sale effort, Bell said, noting that all items put up for sale were donated.

“Isn’t it amazing?” Salmond said of the donated items. “You just look around here and can’t believe it.”

On top of that, everything at the weekend garage sale was for sale by donation, with Salmond Bell noting that the majority of people were “pretty fair” in naming their prices.

All items that were not sold over the weekend will carry over to the Prince Albert SPCA’s Paws of Hope garage sale, set to take place at the Exhibition Grounds’ Archie Anderson Pavilion from Thursday to Saturday.

On the Tri to Send Kids to Camp effort, the next event will be a fashion show fundraiser at Riverside Community School on May 28, beginning at 7 p.m.

This will be followed by a steak dinner at Smitty’s Restaurant on June 22 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
