Parading in from the Prince Albert Historical Museum at 7 p.m. tonight (Friday), Scouts from around the province will come together for a weekend of outdoor camping at the Prince Albert Winter Festival site.

“We have tents, and one thing that we’re using for insulation on the bottom is hay bales, and we have insulated tarps and on top of that,” Prince Albert Scout leader Christian Hansen.

The biggest challenge throughout the weekend will be bathroom breaks, he said.

Friday night’s grand opening will be capped off with a bonfire of Christmas trees on the riverbank, a few blocks east of the Prince Albert Historical Museum at the base of Central Avenue.

The Scouts village will remain open throughout the weekend for those interested in learning about outdoor winter survival skills.  Scout leaders have also constructed a large snowball toss device out of branches that they plan on testing throughout the weekend by tossing snowballs onto the North Saskatchewan River.

The outdoor site will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The admission is a $3 Winter Festival button.
