A 31-year-old man is facing numerous charges including impaired driving following a car chase and subsequent pursuit on foot by police.
The incident occurred on Monday morning at approximately 3 a.m. The accused was the operator of a vehicle that was stopped by patrol in the 100 block of 17th Street West.
Police learned that the man was a suspended driver and suspected that he had been consuming alcohol. While the officer was conducting checks on the operator, the man fled the scene in the vehicle.
A police pursuit followed as the vehicle spend northbound on Highway 2. The pursuit was called off after a couple of minutes as the vehicle continued driving north at a high rate of speed.
Shortly thereafter, police observed the vehicle heading back into the city, again refusing to stop for police.
A tire deflation device finally helped bring the vehicle to a stop, and after a brief chase on foot the accused was taken into custody.
The driver has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding .08, failing to stop for police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.
