The Royal Canadian Legion's annual poppy campaign officially began this morning, with the presentation of the first poppies to Prince Albert veterans at the Royal Canadian Leigion branch number two.
Poppies will be available by donation at businesses across the city, including Sobeys, Coop and Safeway starting at 11 a.m.
Poppy fund treasurer Carol Eybersen says that most of the money from the poppy fund goes directly to aiding veterans.
"The main thing is to help out the veterans," Eybersin said. "They cant just come and ask for $100, but they can come to us if they have dire cirumstances and need to be helped out."
Money from the poppy fund also gets put towards the local Cadet's chapter, and bursaries for students who are related to veterans.
